There are so many things to do while on holidays at Portland Bay Holiday Park. Portland is the largest city in the region, yet it has the charm of a large country town, set by the sea on the Discovery Coast in Victoria's south west region. Here are our top ‘must see’s’ while you’re here:

Portland is ideal surfing destination and there are many fantastic spots along the coastline, including;  

  • Blacks Beach – Beach breaks, left 7 rights, NE-SE wind direction, powerful beach break with strong rips at times, experienced surfers, small swell size.
  • Whites Beach – Left point break, SE wind direction, small swell size, powerful waves, experienced surfers.
  • Bridgewater Bay – Beach breaks, left and right. N-SW wind direction, swell size moderate, great place for beginners with soft spilling waves. Surf Life Saving Club patrols through summer.
  • The Hole – Beach Break left and right, NE-NW wind direction, small swell size, powerful beach breaks, with strong rips at times. Good for beginners on a small swell.
  • Shelly Beach – Beach breaks left and right, small swell size, powerful beach break with strong rips at times, experienced surfers.
  • Murrels – Beach breaks, left hand point break, SE wind direction, small to moderate swell size, summer break. Good waves.
  • Yellow rock – Beach breaks right and left, NE-NW wind direction, small swell size, and powerful beach break with strong rips at times, experienced surfers.
  • Quarry Gates - Beach breaks right and left, NW – SW wind direction, moderate swell, a lot of surfers learn to surf here, care is needed on bigger days due to dumping nature of waves.
  • Crumpets- Point break right hander, W-SW wind direction, moderate to heavy swell, good shape wave, moderate experience due to proximity of rocks.
  • Tease - Beach Break left and right, W-SW wind direction, moderate swell, a lot of surfers learn to surf here, care is needed on bigger days due to dumping nature of waves.
  • Narrawong – Beach breaks right & left breaking on a sand bottom, NE-NW wind direction, moderate to heavy SW swell, good hollow waves, best for surfers with moderate experience due to rips and strong pitching waves.
  • Watertower- Reef break right hander, NW – SW wind direction, moderate to heavy SW swell, best for surfers with moderate experience due to shallow rock bottom.
  • Nun’s Beach – Right hand beach break off the Lee Breakwater wall, strong easterly wind direction, large SE wind slop swell, best for surfers with a moderate amount of experience due to extremely shallow sand bottom.
  • Golf Course Reef – Reef break right hander, W-SW wind direction, moderate swell size, good shape wave worth a look if crumpets is crowded.
  • Blacknose Point - Point break right hander, SW wind direction, Heavy swell, good shape wave, moderate experience due to proximity of rocks.
